For the 2021-2022 school year, the following school districts have entered into an agreement with UD ARTC that allows them to hire UD ARTC teacher candidates BEFORE having passed their designated Praxis II exam:
- Caesar Rodney School District
- Colonial School District
- Smyrna School District
- Woodbridge School District
If you have been hired by one of these school districts and you have not yet passed your Praxis II exam, you must adhere to the requirements specified in your district’s Praxis II Tutoring Agreement. This agreement was sent to you (along with the UD ARTC Teacher Candidate Agreement) at the same time as your UD ARTC Welcome Letter. While each district’s agreement is slightly different, the following points are consistent with all districts’ agreements:
In order to be hired as an exception to UD ARTC policy that requires an “up front” passing Praxis II score, the teacher candidate must:
- Provide proof that he/she has registered to take the appropriate Praxis II exam within 4 weeks of receiving a job offer. Proof of registration must be sent to terlecki@udel.edu . Furthermore, University of Delaware-ARTC (5823) must be designated as a score recipient so that UD ARTC automatically receives exam scores.
- If the teacher candidate does not pass on the first attempt, they must provide proof that they have registered to retake the Praxis II exam no more than 16 weeks after the first attempt. Again, proof of registration must again be sent to terlecki@udel.edu , and University of Delaware-ARTC (5823) must be designated as a score recipient so that UD ARTC automatically receives exam scores. This process must be repeated (the test should be taken no less than every 16 weeks) until passing scores are earned.
- At the beginning of employment—up until the teacher candidate earns passing scores on the appropriate Praxis II exam, the teacher candidate must actively participate in the school district’s Praxis Tutoring Program, for which the school district will provide attendance information to UD ARTC:
[Specific information here varies by district]
The following actions will result in the UD ARTC teacher candidate’s dismissal from UD ARTC, which can affect the teacher candidate’s continued employment as a teacher of record:
- the teacher candidate does not pass within the first year of teaching AND does not show “consistent improvement” across exam attempts
- the teacher candidate does not pass within the first year of teaching AND the teacher candidate’s highest earned score is 90% or more of Delaware’s passing score (for example, if the passing score is 160, the teacher candidate must have earned at least a 144 on one exam attempt)
- the teacher candidate does not consistently attend nor participate in the district’s tutoring program
- the teacher candidate fails to provide proof of exam registration within the above specified timelines
- the teacher candidate fails to provide UD ARTC with exam score reports
